5D4N Cruise on Mariner of the Seas (MS) - Day 3 (25 December)

Merry Christmas!  We are in Penang.  Today, we will be getting off the ship to do some sightseeing in Penang.  Being his first overseas trip and we know how cranky he could be if hungry and tired, we decided to skip the land tours and just go free and easy by hiring a cab at the dock.  Besides, by the time we decided where to go, most of the tours were already sold out.  Tip: Book your excursion early, the popular ones run out fast.

Strapping a 10kg baby around your waist is
no joke!

First stop is Wat Chaiya Mangkalaram, a Thai Buddhist temple in George Town with the famous reclining Buddha.  The statue is the 3rd largest of its kind, being 33 meters in length.

He's starting to get cranky at the wishing pond!  It's an interesting
installation as the wishing bowls are fixed on a rotating mechanism and you
have to aim to get your coins into the bowls, each representing
a specific.  Sad to say, only 1 or 2 of all our coins got in.  Well, one cannot
be too greedy.

We next went to Penang island's highest peak to visit the Kek Lok Si, also known as the Temple of Ten Thousand Buddha with Chinese, Thai and Burmese architectural elements.

This is what we wished for.

Mummy knows best.  True enough, the little lion dancer couldn't keep his tantrums in halfway through the tour and refused to sit in cabs.  Thank goodness we got back onto the ship just in time for lunch and ice cream afterwards.  The big ship is starting to feel like home now.  Afterwards, it's off to explore the rest of the ship again.  Imagine the size, it took us around 4 days to get around to every corner of it!

Exploring the front of the ship where the control room is.

A beautiful view of Penang from onboard the ship.

Look at how dwarf the neighboring ship is.

Another beautiful view from Deck 12.

Next, we headed off to Deck 14 to check out the sports facilities.  Look at how excited he is.

We did not get to try this as you need to pre-book your slot and it's always full.

Table tennis

Basketball court - a match is on!

Michael Jordan is onboard?

Mini gold course

In-line skating

Back at our stateroom, the little one busied himself with picking grains of sands from the balcony floor and he was so happy just doing that the whole afternoon.

Chilling at the balcony afterwards, this is life!

Mummy is not losing out to the little lion dancer.
Just before dinner, we stopped by the Cafe Promenade for some tea and pastries.  By the way, it's free!

We found a shop selling basic amenities.

Finally, it's time for bed and not without a small lion dance on the bed.  Good night!

Read on for Day 4.
